The Phelps family has a long-standing tradition of decorating one gingerbread house and then breaking it on New Year's Eve. I'm not sure when or where it started, but I assume it was to look forward to something after Christmas and also to set a date when the coveted gingerbread house would get eaten. Mom has carried the tradition on with the grandkids, but now they do 2 gingerbread houses. She makes them from scratch and we all gather leftover Christmas candy and they go to town! This year, little kids had one house and big kids had the other. The big kids wanted to make theirs really nice looking! Here are some of the pictures from the day.
