Memorial Day Weekend

We went up to beautiful Alpine for Memorial Day Weekend. We left about 6pm Friday evening. We arrived about 10:45 pm and we were the first ones there. We did have to deal with some vomit in Show Low (Kellen gets carsick), but other than that the kids were pretty good and we had a good trip up.

Since we were the first ones there, we had to open up the trailer and try to get water and electricity and all of that on. We ended up getting the water on but no hot water and no heater. The 5 of us slept in the trailer and it was extremely cold with no heater. But we all survived. The next day the local handyman came to fix the heater and the pipe issue. So we had the two bathrooms with hot water and the heater for the night. All of Jared's brothers and families came, so it was really fun. The BEST part was: it was cold and rainy the entire weekend. I savored every moment of it!

What we did: We went hiking on Escudilla Mountain, with a great view at the "top" and then it started hailing! But it was so much fun.

We kayaked at Luna Lake (ok, for possibly 5 minutes or so I was not savoring the cold and rain)

After that we went to the newly reopened Lollipop Shoppe and Alpine Grill. Got lots of candy and ate lunch. The soup and sliders were good, even if they did take ages to serve to us.

Monday night we had a bonfire with hot dogs and s'mores.
Tuesday, we..........uhm....did something but I can't recall what. I know we went to the Bear Wallow Cafe for dinner and then decided to drive to Luna to see if there was more major shopping there (no, population: 199, state: New Mexico). So, we visited New Mexico! On the way back we saw 7 deer. Just standing by the side of the road watching us. Bridger insisted they were horses though.

We did take a walk to the pond, pet Lady (the horse), and throw rocks in the pond.

Oh we also went to the tackle shop/gas station and bought fishing rods and some live worms to try our hand at fishing at Husley Lake. It's a small lake but was recently stocked, so people were having great luck. We didn't quite get the hang of casting the line so we didn't catch anything before it started raining. After we ate our lunch in the car, we decided to go back to the trailer for hot chocolate and a movie. I think the boys still enjoyed their first fishing trip though.

This Conversation Made My Mother's Day

Jared laying on the bed.

Jared: Hey Bridger, can I get some cuddles?
Bridger: I don't have any money.
Jared: That's ok, it doesn't cost to get cuddles from your dada.
Bridger: Do YOU have any money?
Jared: I have a little bit...
(pause...Bridger stares at Jared)
Jared: Oh, do I have to pay you for cuddles?
Bridger: Yeahhhh
Jared: oh, ok, I will pay you.
Bridger: OK. (He cuddles with Jared.)
Me: Can I get free cuddles since it's Mother's Day?
Bridger: Yeahhhhh
(Cuddles with me very briefly and moves back to cuddling with Jared)
Jared: Back to the daily grind. Gotta earn that living.

I was dying laughing. My little con artist charging for cuddles! And it's worth every penny!

My Mother's Day was great though! I was treated like the queen of the castle and we had a great weekend with both of our wonderful mothers.
